Jean-Philippe Rameau, Les fêtes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour, ou Les dieux de l'Égypte
To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of Rameau, Hervé Niquet and his Concert Spirituel pull out all the stops, inviting you to a modern world premiere of the Fêtes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour, more than two centuries after its last performance! Premiered at Versailles in 1747 on the occasion of the marriage of the son of Louis XV, this opera was performed at the Opéra de Paris until the 1780s. Demanding impressive choral and orchestral forces, it contains one of Rameau's most extraordinary scenes: the Nile overflowing its banks, featuring a double chorus. A magnificent work, performed as a tribute to the amazing modernity of Rameau's musical vision.
