Founded in 2005, the Shadows Festival is a biennial Paris event devoted to Chinese independent cinema. The festival, which presents recent works and explores particular themes, promotes independent film-makers who offer a different way of looking at today’s rapidly changing China. The films it programmes - fiction, documentary, animation, and video, of all lengths - are selected directly in China and have not previously been screened in Europe.
