Scherzi musicali & Madrigali guerrieri e amorosi Claudio Monteverdi

Claudio Monteverdi was light years ahead of his contemporaries, who failed to understand his music and often condemned it. Nowadays, we appreciate the Italian composer's sheer genius. Singlehandedly he created a completely new style, which provided the basis for baroque. Monteverdi is perhaps best known as the father of opera (he paved the way for a new style and ushered in an entire genre), but he also wrote brilliant religious music. His madrigals are unique in their kind. Here, the inimitable Ricercar Consort does them full justice.
