Missa Gaude lux Donatiane Jacobus Clemens Non Papa
Dies irae, dies illa Arnoldus Brugensis

In economic, political and cultural terms, Bruges was one of the most important cities in the Burgundian Empire of the fifteenth century. The city remained a musical centre during the rule of Emperor Charles V. The Sint-Donatius Collegiate had a famous music chapel where the most important French-Flemish musicians received their training, were cantors or filled the role of bandmaster or ‘maitre des enfants de chœur’. During this concert, our faithful Huelgas Ensemble performs works by these musicians and more specifically by Arnoldus Brugensis and Antoine Busnois. The highlight is the magisterial five-voice Missa Gaude lux Donatiane which Jacobus Clemens non Papa composed specially for the chapter of Sint-Donatius.
