‘Les Muffatti - Caroline Weynants & Tomas Kral’

Liebster Jesu,

What if … Mendelssohn hadn’t dusted off Bach’s St Matthew Passion, but the work of contemporary Johann Christoph Graupner? The appointment of a new Thomaskantor in Leipzig meant Graupner was now valued more highly than Bach! The Brussels Baroque ensemble Les Muffatti demonstrates that the composers are of equal artistic merit. Oboist Benoît flourishes in Graupner’s oboe concerto but also in Bach’s aria, Liebster Jesu. Caroline Weynants’ delightfully warm voice and the dulcet tones of baritone Tomáš Král really bring these cantata-arias to life.
