String Quartet No. 2 Morton Feldman

"If you think you might have secret information listening to me, you're lost." If there is one of Morton Feldman's works to which that quotation definitely applies, it is his Second String Quartet. It lasts just over six hours and there is no "right" way to listen to it. Maybe you will be hypnotised by the work; maybe you will find yourself listening ever more closely to it. Be that as it may, this quartet is intimate, subdued, and slow – and not at all epic, as its length might lead you to suspect.
