One of the most famous big bands in the world comes to BOZAR! The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, from New York, has carried the torch for the big band, and the big band repertoire in jazz, for many years. Its artistic director is probably even better known: much laurelled trumpet player and composer, Wynton Marsalis, has 9 Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Music to his name and has embodied all things ‘traditional American jazz’ since the 1980s. On the bill: arrangements of pieces by Thelonious Monk and compositions linked to, or inspired by, the repertoire of “The High Priest of Jazz”. Expect swinging rhythms,  thundering trumpets and sultry saxophones, by top soloists from the heart of the American jazz scene.
