Orchestre Philharmonique du LuxembourgGustavo Gimeno conductor – Yuja Wang piano

The Tempest, Fantasy Overture Pyotr Tchaikovsky
Piano Concerto in D major, "for the left hand" Maurice Ravel
Piano Concerto no. 2, op. 102 Dmitry Shostakovich
Daphnis et Chloé, suite no. 2 Maurice Ravel

Everyone enjoys seeing Chinese pianist Yuja Wang perform. She has been hailed as having astonishing technical skills and “flying fingers”. Her interpretations are always impressive. We agree wholeheartedly with the New York Times which said: “She seems to have everything: speed, flexibility, pianistic thunder and interpretive nuance”. Accompanied by the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg (conducted by Gustavo Gimeno), she is the perfect choice to perform Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, which alternates thunderous energy with subtle delicacy, and its lovely Andante. Also being performed is Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, which she recorded at Deutsche Grammophon and for which the young musician received glowing praise.
