The Ugandan music scene is going through something of a purple patch, fuelled by the effervescence of its local artists and collectives – and none more so than the Nyege Nyege label and festival, based in Kampala. A key member of the collective, whose name means ‘a sudden and uncontrollable urge to move, dance or wiggle’, Kampire Bahana delivers DJ sets that are crafted with bass, polyrhythms and Lingala instruments and infused with flourishes from Congolese and Kenyan music.
