In the presence of the Director

A beautiful documentary, which crosses not only the walls of an apartment in Belgrade, but confronts the history of an entire country and society in its fight against nationalism and struggle for democracy.  Mila’s film honors her mother, Srbijanka, and her ‘...legacy of activism’ bringing ‘her spirit of honor and responsibility to a new generation and a wider audience.’- Variety. The film ‘...is a multi-layered work by a thoroughly precise and dedicated filmmaker who is nothing less than perfect at balancing facts, ideas and emotions, and has an uncanny sense of dynamics, even managing to create moments of pure poetry.’ - Cineuropa.

A locked door inside a Belgrade apartment has kept one family separated from their past for over 70 years. As the filmmaker begins an intimate conversation with her mother, the political fault line running through their home reveals a house and a country haunted by history. The chronicle of a family in Serbia turns into a searing portrait of an activist in times of great turmoil, questioning the responsibility of each generation to fight for their future.

The Other Side of Everything, in the presence of the director Mila Turajlic, will be followed by a Q&A and live streaming debate in 10 European countries.
