Benevolo's Scattered Sounds

Forgotten genius Orazio Benevolo was a younger contemporary of Frescobaldi and Monteverdi and, according to some, Palestrina’s only true successor. He composed the Missa Si Deus pro nobis for 8 spatially separated choir groups and 15 instruments. A first recording of this mass by the Concert Spirituel and Hervé Niquet was released in 2018 and awarded with a prestigious Diapason d’Or! On view of this concert, Hervé Niquet made a thorough study of the space and acoustics in the Henry Le Boeuf Hall in order to ensure that every chair is bathed in music. The alternation with other Baroque composers only confirms Benevolo’s mastery.
