When listening to Ravel’s jazzy Piano Concerto in G, hardly anyone can keep their toes still — especially if Pavel Kolesnikov is seated at the piano. The same goes for Milhaud’s Le Boeuf sur le Toit. Milhaud interlaced his crazy ballet with countless Brazilian melodies. Gershwin was very eager to be taken seriously as a classic composer, but was mainly successful on Broadway. The opera Porgy and Bess is the absolutely brilliant combination of the best of both these worlds. Cheers!
