Samah Hijawi performer, concept – Reem Shilleh dramaturgy – Gregor Van Mulders technician

A story that journeys through space and time brings artist Sama Hijawi and her grandmother together in Palestine. They are in the company of two famous Europeans: the crusader Godfrey of Bouillon and the painter Pieter Bruegel. This eccentric foursome experiences several millennia and  all of the continents. The characters gradually lose all form of context and gain a new place in colonial history. The piece shows us how colonialism is deeply rooted in European art.

Samah Hijawi is a visual artist and researcher of Palestinian origin. Her work deals with such themes as trauma and dislocation in the Middle East and has been exhibited in places including the MoMa in New York and the Beirut Art Center.
