‘Olivier Guez’

The French writer Olivier Guez made his international breakthrough with The disappearance of Josef Mengele, a historical novel about the Auschwitz doctor's life as a fugitive. The book won the 2017 Prix Renaudot and has been translated into many languages. Guez had already established a reputation with articles published in The New York Times and Le Monde, as well as with La chute du mur (2009), which is being republished on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This autumn also sees the publication of Le siècle des dictateurs, a selection of 22 essays compiled by Guez on the dictators that were in power during the 20th century. In what is far more than a series of macabre portraits, the authors question modern democracy.
