‘Three Winters’

When writing Three Winters Tena Štivičić drew inspiration from her own family history.  The result is an epic family drama that stretches across three periods in time and four generations of a Croatian family, from the victory of Tito's communist partisans in 1945 to the collapse of Yugoslavia in 1990 and the turning point marked by Croatia's entry to the EU in 2013. The play shows how the destiny of a family is inextricably linked to that of a nation and how political upheavals and family problems go hand in hand.

Tena Štivičić is a Croatian playwright and screenwriter. She was listed among the 50 most promising writers in the UK by The Royal Court Theatre and BBC. Three Winters was first performed at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.  
Ivica Buljan is a key figure in contemporary theatre in Croatia and Slovenia with an international career as director, author, teacher and artistic director of a number of theatres and festivals.  In his work as director he focuses very much on the actor's presence and his work has been performed at more than 30 art festivals worldwide.
