El Sombrero de Tres Picos (The Three-Cornered Hat) is a ballet by the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla that, at the initiative of Sergei Diaghilev, was performed by the Ballets Russes in London with a stage set and costumes designed by Pablo Picasso. After the premiere, Manuel de Falla distilled from the ballet two orchestral suites that rival Stravinsky’s Petrushka in terms of musical quality. The American composer George Gershwin is known for his fascinating mix of jazz and early 20th-century classical music. After the unbelievably successful Rhapsody in Blue – his first serious composition – he was commissioned by the New York Symphony Orchestra to write a piano concerto. The French pianist Lise de la Salle excels in this jazzy concerto. The final piece is a performance of Saint-Saëns' Third Symphony by the Belgian National Orchestra with a prominent role for the BOZAR organ.
