‘Mozart Requiem’

1 May'21
- 17:00

Antwerp Symphony Orchestra & Philippe Herreweghe

The fact that Mozart composed a requiem mass during the final weeks of his life continues to appeal to the imagination. Death came calling even before he could put down the last bar line of his incomparable Requiem, and his assistant Franz Xaver Süssmayr had to finish the piece. An emotional experience is assured under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe, with his own, world-renowned Collegium Vocale Gent and a host of top soloists. The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra completes the programme, with the energetic overture to Mozart’s opera Idomeneo and the Symphony No. 100 by Joseph Haydn, nicknamed the ‘Military Symphony’ because of its use of a triangle, cymbals and bass drum.
