Brazil.Brasil tells the story of the artist’s fascinating quest for the diversity and the identity(ies) of Brasil. The exhibition starts at the beginning of the 19th century with the Brazilian monarchy an academy which advocate national art where the Indian is presented as the hero. Later on, the portrayal by travelling artists from Europe enriches the vision on Brazil in art with more critical observations of ethnic, social en geographical diversity. At the outset of the 20th century, the Brazilian artists try to strip out the soul of their country, resulting in a marvelous modern and own art. This yet unseen ensemble exhibits great master’s paintings, drawings, sculptures,.. as well as treasures from Brazilian archeology and anthropology.
