NICHE Geert De Groote Architecten, Eden

In the lead-up to the festive season, BOZAR ARCHITECTURE/A+ have invited Geert De Groote Architecten to present their Eden project in the NICHE-Young Belgian Architecture series. Eden is a little chapel created for the "Diafaan V" exhibition of art in glass. A steel structure frames coloured stained-glass windows whose forms are inspired by Gothic architecture. Installed on the lawn of the Groot Begijnhof Sint-Elisabeth in Ghent, it provides a semi-intimate, semi-public place of contemplation. At a time when churches are being deconsecrated, cities are becoming obsessed with security, and public space is being reduced, Eden invites people to share, in the city, those private moments that give a certain rhythm to our lives.
