The Sufi Night once again focuses our attention on the ecstatic music of the mystical tradition of Islam. With groups from Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Indonesia, this year's event shows just how diverse its sources of inspiration can be. The event features the Whirling Dervishes of Konya, the Sufi songs and music of the Indonesian ensemble Syubbanul Akhyar, the Moroccan Sama of the Haj Mohamed Bajedoub & Ensemble and, between the concerts, the audio-visual poems of Diwans. The evening ends with a series of meditative rituals called dhikr performed by four Egyptian munshidin (religious singers). Prepare to be dazzled!
