Ravi Shankar passed away one year ago. He was a famous master sitar player who made the instrument popular in the sixties, most notably through teaching the Beatles. He can be seen in Indomania, in the documentary called Raga by Howard Worth. His unique personality and instrument inspired several artists, including John Cage, Philip Glass, violinist Yehudin Menudin and John Coltrane. He also collaborated with many of them.

Dominique De Guchteneere on sitar and Jean-François Opdebeeck on bass guitar created ‘Tansen Project’. The harmonies of the sitar echo the grooves of the electronic bass, juxtaposing sounds, rhythm, jazz and electro, with a hint of blues and traditional music, with influences of Ananda Shankar, Collin Walcott and John Scofield.
