Thanks to his unique blend of Senegalese mbalax, Cuban music, hip hop, jazz and soul Youssou N'Dour became one of the greatest living African musicians. His collaborations with Peter Gabriel, Axelle Red, Sting, Neneh Cherry (remember the world hit “7 seconds”?) and Branford Marsalis to name but a few are all perfect examples of his artistic versatility. The Senegalese world star has always been vocal about his commitment to a fairer world, singing for a variety of charities - from human rights to poverty reduction - and has engaged in Senegalese politics since 2012. In 2011 he received an honorary doctorate from Yale University and this year he won the prestigious Polar Music prize. On 5 October the singer will once again perform live in a Belgian concert hall. “Destination Senegal” is an anthology of his own work and a virtual journey through his homeland. The wonderful acoustics of the Centre for Fine Arts will only enhance his multi-layered music.
