Who better than Greek musicians to open the festivities to mark the Greek presidency of the Council of the European Union? A programme that focuses on baroque operas whose subject matter is taken from Greek mythology will be performed by an Athenian ensemble founded in 1991, Armonia Atenea, whose virtuosity and distinctive sound have won international recognition. The ensemble is headed by the young Greek conductor George Petrou, regarded as one of the greatest Handelian conductors of our time. A discovery!
