With the Winter Olympics 2014 being held in Sochi, the Caucasus is very much in the news these days. A context that has encouraged BOZAR, De Pianofabriek, and a number of other organisations to launch a special project, The Caucasus: From Sea to Sea. The idea is to turn the spotlight on this fascinating region between the Black Sea and the Caspian and its patchwork of different peoples, each with its own language and culture. The Caucasus consists of seven republics of the Russian Federation and three independent republics: Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. The Caucasus: From Sea to Sea aims to do justice to their diverse cultures. The first edition of this long-term project focuses on Georgia and Armenia. It includes music, film, theatre, literature, and photography, while also looking at political and social questions in the course of round-table discussions and an international colloquium. There will also be opportunities to enjoy the region's dance, wine, and culinary specialities. For, if there is one thing that unites all the peoples of the Caucasus, it is their age-old traditions of warm hospitality.
