‘Les Gestes de Saint Louis - Kita Bauchet’

3 Oct.'22
- 19:30

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Kita Bauchet and Alioune Diagne

The result of a collaboration between the Senegalese contemporary dance company Diagn’Art and the Belgian and Swiss artists Kita Bauchet and Stéphanie Pfister, Les gestes de Saint-Louis presents a subjective sketch of the city and the daily life that gives it rhythm. A choreographic infiltration of Saint-Louis in Senegal, with two dancers and two cameras, that highlights the energies that make it vibrant and celebrates the creative force of its youth. The film Les Gestes de Saint Louis has no dialogue. The dance, the sounds of the city and the music are its only components.

The film screening will be preceded by the contemporary dance performance Siki, by performer Alioune Diagne. The performance is inspired by the story of Battling Siki, the first African to win the world championship boxing title in Paris in 1923.

Alioune Diagne (1982) is a self-taught choreographer and dancer who lives and works in Saint-Louis, Senegal. He is the founder and artistic director of the Compagnie Diagn'Art and the international 'Duo Solo Danse' Festival. His creations and collaborations with other choreographers have toured the world, including Banlieue, Flora and Fagalaa.

The Diagn'Art Company is a Senegalese contemporary dance company directed by Alioune Diagne. It has been exporting its creations to Europe and Africa for over ten years.
