No revolution is accomplished - tribute to Astrid Roemer
A royal laureate at Bozar. The very day after receiving the Dutch Literature Prize from King Philip, we welcome the legendary Surinamese writer Astrid H. Roemer for a full evening of entertainment, created by Behoud de Begeerte, the Flemish Arts Centre for Literature. Packed with literature, music and video, this show offers a kaleidoscopic perspective of the life and works of the writer in question. Roemer will address the audience herself, and fellow writers will also read from her work and their own writings.
For more than half a century, Astrid H. Roemer has been famous for her unconventional, poetic style and her ability to blend small historical elements with the bigger picture. Her rich oeuvre offers a unique glimpse into the history of Suriname. Winning the Dutch Literature Prize is not only a personal triumph for Roemer, it is also a truly historic moment. Never before has a Surinamese writer received this prestigious literature prize in the Dutch language. After much moving around in the Netherlands and Belgium, Roemer has finally returned to Paramaribo. This rare public performance in our language area is a unique opportunity to see this great writer at work.
