The best of the best come together at BOZAR on December 8 to bring you one of the biggest events of the season.
1. The Orchestra
Hearing them at least once in your lifetime should be on anyone’s bucket list. Just like you can find Citizen Kane in any top ten of the best movies of all time, there’s a consensus among international critics about the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam: it’s simply one of the best, and maybe THE best, orchestra in the world
2. The pianist
This astonishing French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard is equally at home in the avant-garde as in the classic repertoire of the great masters. Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best pianists alive today.
3. The music
Dvořák’s Piano Concerto op. 33 is a romantic masterpiece with a weird history. Deemed to be ‘ineffective’ when it premiered some 140 years ago, the piano part was rewritten… but not by Dvořák. This concert is a rare opportunity to hear the original version as the composer intended.
4. The maestro
43 is very young in the world of conducting, but Daniel Harding has already reached the top, conducting the most prestigious orchestras around. You can also find him in the cockpit (he’s a qualified airline pilot) and - more to the point – in the world’s biggest opera houses like La Scala or the Wiener Staatsoper.
5. The opera
Because on top of a glorious piano concerto you get a complete opera. Bartók’s dark and disturbing fairy tale Bluebeard’s Castle is one of the most fascinating and mysterious masterpieces of the 20th century. How deep are you willing to delve into your partner’s past?
