BOZAR turns into the country’s biggest club for a new edition of Nuits Sonores. The biggest names in the electronic music world descend on Brussels to make you move and think. Here’s a small taster of four days of non-stop beats.
It’s quite an experience: every room of the labyrinthine Centre for Fine Arts filled with beats and bodies. The main venue, the spectacular art deco concert hall, is transformed into a huge dancefloor, with the dj’s spinning up high above the crowd in the royal box. A whole army is summoned to fill all those spots – to name but a few: ڭليثر Glitter ٥٥, Dasha Rush, Octave One Live, and Paula Temple. (check the entire line up for the BOZAR TAKEOVER – 04.10)
Nuits Sonores is not just about moving, it’s also about talking. Club owners, artists and even philosophers exchange ideas about club culture, activism and more. Bogomir Doringer has been studying and filming dancefloors all over the world. His project Dance of Emergency looks at the dancefloor as a space for socio-political expression. First he participates in a debate then he points his camera to the dancefloor at BOZAR to integrate the Brussels party crowd in a live artwork. The directors of Boiler Room: Palestine Underground show and discuss their film, with the stars of the doc, Jazar Crew, come down from Haifa to perform later that night. (find all the talks and workshops in the EUROPEAN LAB section – 03-05.10)
Nuits Sonores teams up with Nuit Blanche to take over the entire canal area to deprive you of sleep and provide you with the best night of your life. From Kanal – Centre Pompidou on one side of the water to La Vallée on the other, expect a wave of concerts, contemporary art, music and performances until the break of day. Highlights include popular Belgian producer Le Motel at Be-Here and the Belgian premiere of Endless Power, the powerful audio-visual performance by the enigmatic Lotic. (prepare your itinerary for THE LOOP – 05.10)
It’s not all night-time fun at Nuits Sonores because the closing rave kicks off at 3 on Sunday – that’s 3 pm not 3 am. Headliner is none other than French icon Laurent Garnier. And Nuits Sonores has even thought about clubbing families: Recyclart has an immersive afternoon planned with sound experiments, video shoots and a kids disco. We’re even hearing whispers that a certain icon might play a warm-up gig for the under 10s… (plan your post-brunch Sunday – 06.10)
