  • Els Dietvorst, winner of BelgianArtPrize 2021

"Els Dietvorst is a committed artist, concerned with social issues, which she addresses by seeking to reveal the connections between people, situations and environments. Her work is rooted in observing, listening and caring". It is in these terms that the Jury presented its winner, at the end of a process that originally brought together 238 artists. Organised since 1950, the BelgianArtPrize underlines the artistic relevance, innovative vision, diversified artistic practice and distinct visual language of the winning artist. Els Dietvorst's work, which includes sculptures and installations, drawings, writings and visual installations, is an illustration of this. Outside the institutional and commercial artistic circuits, she finds the coherence necessary for the full development of her project. Els Dietvorst analyses the human condition and through her creations she addresses themes such as life and death, fear, alienation and desire, and the "stranger". The winner of the BelgianArtPrize is invited to create an art project presenting new work at an exhibition to be held at BOZAR in the autumn of 2021.
