As the ultimate crowning achievement of his love for Kamila Stösslová, Leoš Janáček wrote a string quartet, nicknamed Intimate Letters. Janáček met Kamila Stösslová in the summer of 1917 and from then on maintained an correspondence with her. In the string quartet, the intense feelings and desires of the letters are well expressed, with the viola acting as Stösslová's voice. Dvořák wrote his Thirteenth String Quartet after his time in America, honouring his homeland with folk elements. The Pavel Haas Quartet is the best string quartet in the Czech Republic, and knows the repertoire of both composers inside out. So we are looking forward to their tribute to two of their greatest composers.
