Contrary to what its name might suggest, Monsieur Doumani is actually a trio. Hailing from Nicosia, its members have all been influenced in different ways by the traditional music of their native Cyprus, which they revisit with a contemporary sound and vibe. Acclaimed by The Guardian, Monsieur Doumani’s music is reminiscent of vintage Greek music and 1970s Turkish psychedelic pop and rock, but never strays from its distinctive colour. After 10 years in the business and countless gigs and festivals all over the world (Womad, Sziget, Paradiso, Mupa...), the band presents Pissoúrin, its new album, with an even more rugged and psychedelic sound, released on the Glitterbeat label. Just awesome!

The Belgian psychedelic jazz collective Compro Oro reunites two leading figures of Istanbul’s alternative music scene. Murat Ertal, joined here by his wife and singer Esma Ertal, has for years stood out in the iconic Baba Zula group, brilliantly blending Turkish tradition with dub, electronic and psychedelic rock. Compro Oro and their distinguished guests will be presenting their latest album, Simurg (Sdban Ultra, 2020), at the SEE Festival. Beyond its haunting musical dimension, this new concept record takes us on an existential journey of purification and rebirth: a legend in which we follow a myriad of birds through many valleys (of ignorance, love, ego, etc.). Most of them get lost on the way, and only 30 ultimately reach their final destination, the Simurg’s nest on Mount Kaf, where reincarnation into an all-powerful and all-knowing phoenix takes place.
