In the presence of the director.

It is summertime in southeastern Spain. A storm threatens to cause the river crossing a small village to overflow. While an old popular belief claims that some women, supposedly born with « the water inside », are predestined to disappear with each new flood, local teenagers try to survive the weariness by smoking cigarettes, dancing and drinking. In the electric atmosphere that precedes the storm, Ana, who dreams of fleeing this village, and José will live a story of summer love.

Elena López Riera was born in Orihuela, Spain in 1982. Her latest short film Those Who Desire was nominated for the European Film Awards and won the Pardino d’Oro at Locarno. She is the co-founder of lacasinegra, an artists’ collective dedicated to experimentation with new audiovisual devices. El Agua, selected at the Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation, is her first feature film.

The conversation with the film director will be held by Mariana Cadenas Sangronis. Mariana, a visual storyteller with a ‘Doc Nomads’ master's degree from LUCA School of Arts, is currently working on an animated series about migration and a VR documentary experience.
