‘Meet the Writer: Agustín Fernández Mallo’

Agustín Fernández Mallo is one of the most radical Spanish writers of today. In his own country, he has been at the top of his profession for 15 years, thanks to his Nocilla Trilogy, which is already a classic. An entire generation of Spanish authors was named after the trilogy, a non-conformist movement that denounces conventional literature. He is also well known in the United Kingdom and the United States. In the Paris Review, he recently declared, "I consider myself punk insofar as that means radical, because radical is not shouting more than others or setting fire to cars, but “grasping things by the root,” such being the etymological meaning of radical." Mallo's books evoke the spirit of Cortázar and Borges, as well as that of David Lynch. Each is a sort of journey through the mind with a fascination for science and technology. Mallo is coming to Brussels because the Nocilla Trilogy is being translated into Dutch for the first time. He will be interviewed by Robin Lefere, professor of Spanish literature at the ULB.
