‘Talk: Towards a Belgian cultural space?’

To what degree is there a common Belgian cultural space in which French- and Dutch-speakers feel equally at home?  What practical forms does cooperation take across the language border? Why is it that Flemish Belgians and French-speaking Belgians know so little about each other? How do they view one another? Can Brussels help achieve a cultural rapprochement? These major issues will be central to the round table discussion held for the 50th anniversary of the journal Septentrion. Miroir de la culture en Flandre et aux Pays-Bas and of its final issue that was devoted principally to cultural bridges between France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The participants, all privileged observers or actors on the Belgian cultural scene, will attempt to shed light on these questions of concern to our society through their analyses, experiences and proposals.  
Participants: Béatrice Delvaux, journalist at Le Soir, Caroline De Mulder, novelist and professor of French literature at Namur University, François Brabant, editor-in-chief of the magazine Wilfried and Michael De Cock, artistic director of the KVS. Discussion moderator: Françoise Baré, journalist at RTBF television.
