Meet the Artist: Gerard Byrne

In the context of the Irish Presidency, Bozar welcomes Gerard Byrne, one of Ireland’s most prominent and prolific contemporary artists. Curator Padraic E. Moore will discuss his work with him, and a selection of his latest film and video works will be screened.

Gerard Byrne is an artist working in Ireland, and a teacher to young artists in Staedelschule, Frankfurt. His work recovers futures past, gleaning historical legacies from the Chrysler Imperial, Playboy Magazine interviews, Minimalist Art through photographs, Proto-Cinema and Natural History, and most recently the art historical significance of the Mamiya 7 rangefinder camera. He recently co-curated (with Judith Wilkinson) the first comprehensive exhibition of seven teleplays made by Samuel Beckett in Stuttgart Germany (WKV Stuttgart). He works primarily through photographs, film & video, and occasional publishing.
