Smashing Wor(l)ds Podcast

Words have power. Words matter. Smashing Wor(l)ds is a podcast series about vocabularies: the unlearning of old ones, the imagining of new ones. A story of words and resistance - in voices and sounds.

Four conversations between podcaster Anna Raimondo and four activists, artists, citizens - from Brussels and elsewhere. How can we use language to change the world? What role does language play in their identity and their work? What are the words that Gia, Jaouad, Aline and Shahin would like to deconstruct, repurpose, celebrate, or reclaim?

Gia Abrassart

Gia, who calls herself a 'retired' activist, works around self-care and tries to redefine the words 'love', 'justice' and 'decolonisation'. (Interview in French)

Aline Bosuma

Aline is an anti-racism activist, singer and 'harmoniseuse'. She discusses the words 'migrant', 'ethnicity' and 'person of colour'. (Interview in French)

Shahin Mohammad

Words and expressions that stigmatise people with a disability are at the heart of this conversation with feminist, anti-racist and anti-ableist activist Shahin. (Interview in French)

Jaouad Alloul

Multidisciplinary artist Jaouad declares his love for the word 'cacophony' and looks at the term 'queer' from his own identity and experience. (Interview in Dutch)
