The Folly of Desire

When jazz icon Brad Mehldau got talking to top tenor Ian Bostridge after performing at Schloss Elmau in Germany several years ago, they shared their mutual appreciation and their common love for Robert Schumann. This encounter planted the seed of a friendship that comes to fruition during this concert, with Schumann’s moving Dichterliebe. It is coupled here with The Folly of Desire, a song cycle that Mehldau wrote specially for his good friend’s flexible tenor. Mehldau has written enchanting melodies to accompany the words of Brecht, Yeats, Goethe and Blake on love and human desire.
