‘Gott hilf mir’

30 Sept.'20

Vox Luminis

The Abendmusiken were legendary concerts given by the composer and organist Dietrich Buxtehude in Lübeck. In November 1705, a year before Buxtehude’s death, none other than the young Johann Sebastian Bach undertook a 400-kilometre trek to Lübeck in order to attend these concerts. Bach was so in awe of Buxtehude’s personality and music that he stayed longer than intended, jeopardising his job as an organist. Today, there is no way of knowing exactly what these concerts were like, but Vox Luminis will attempt to bring to life the magic of these evenings with some of Buxtehude’s most refined cantatas and instrumental music.
