Brahms Festival
During this focus weekend, the Belgian National Orchestra and its chief conductor Antony Hermus turn their attention to Brahms. In collaboration with the French piano sensation Alexandre Kantorow, both piano concertos will be performed. Additionally, the programme includes the Second Symphony and two Belgian premieres of works inspired by Brahms's music.
This concert begins with Brahms' Second Symphony, a particularly light and cheerful piece imbued with a pastoral atmosphere. After the interval, Alexandre Kantorow ventures into the First Piano Concerto. The tumultuous opening bars of this grand work are said to be inspired by Robert Schumann's suicide attempt.
