Elene Mikaberidze will be present for an intro and a Q&A on the 19th of November and the 2nd of December.
Led by the kind-hearted father Soso, a family of four starts a blueberry farm to secure their future. Living in northern Georgia near the troubled border with the Russian-backed region of Abkhazia, where new conflicts have been rumbling for 30 years, Soso—a retired engineer—joins his wife Nino and sons Giorgi and Lazare in the Georgian ‘Plant the Future’ programme to stabilize the area. Nino is haunted by war memories and hopes her children will see the world, while Soso wants to keep their bond to the land. Meanwhile, Giorgi and Lazare dream of a different life, immersed in anime and longing to visit Japan. Through hardship and hope, the family balances their present with dreams of what lies ahead.
Elene Mikaberidze was born in 1988 in Georgia, and spent much of her life in Brussels. With an MA in Eastern Europe & Caucasus Studies, she explored war representation in cinema. Returning to Georgia in 2016, Elene directs films and works for Tbilisi IFF as a programmer.
