Conversation with Filmmaker Pilar Palomero & carte blanche film: El Cielo Gira
The evening will begin with a conversation between Pilar Palomero and Beatriz Navas Valdés, EUROPALIA's film curator. The conversation will offer an insight into Pilar Palomero's cinematic universe.
In Aldealseñor, a tiny village in Soria, only fourteen people remain. As time passes and the village slowly fades, a painter moves in to capture its landscape. El cielo gira, the debut film by Mercedes Álvarez, blends documentary, autobiography and poetry in a quiet, intimate way. Selected as part of a carte blanche programme, Pilar Palomero sees this film as a key influence on her own cinematic voice.
Filmmaker and screenwriter Pilar Palomero has emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Spanish cinema. Trained in cinematography, she directed her first short, Noć, in 2015. Her debut feature, Las Niñas (2021), was a breakthrough, winning four Goya Awards. Los Destellos (2024) is her most recent work.
This screening is part of Close-Up: Pilar Palomero, presented in the context of EUROPALIA ESPAÑA.
