Lucrecia Martel’s first documentary retraces the story of three men who attempted to evict the Indigenous community of Chuschagasta in northern Argentina, claiming ownership of ancestral land. Armed with guns, they killed the community’s leader, Javier Chocobar. The murder was filmed. Yet it took nine years of protests before the case finally reached court, while the perpetrators remained free and continued to deny any wrongdoing.
Lucrecia Martel is one of the most influential voices in contemporary world cinema. Since her debut with La Ciénaga (2001), she has built a compact but essential body of work, acclaimed for its radical sound design, elliptical storytelling and sharp critique of class, patriarchy and post‑colonial power structures. After films such as La niña santa and The Headless Woman, her return with Zama (2017) confirmed her status as a major auteur. With Nuestra Tierra, Martel extends her political and sensory cinema into the terrain of colonial violence and land dispossession.
