The Meaning of Flowers
Following the release of her new album The Meaning of Flowers on September 18, Agnes Obel has announced a new European tour. After two sold-out Belgian shows in 2025, the Danish pianist and composer returns to Belgium for an exclusive performance at Bozar in Brussels on Tuesday, November 2, 2027.
Singer, pianist, composer, and producer Agnes Obel first captured international attention with her platinum-selling albums Philharmonics and Aventine. Blending delicate instrumentation, cinematic atmospheres, and meticulous production, she has established a unique place in today’s musical landscape. Since the release of Citizen of Glass in 2016, she has further expanded her sound with ethereal electronic textures, reinforcing the distinctive style that has earned her critical acclaim around the world.
In 2020, she released her fourth album, ‘Myopia’. Like all of her previous records, it was entirely written, arranged, and produced by Obel herself in her Berlin studio. After a five-year break from touring, she returned to the stage in 2025, marked by, among other highlights, two sold-out concerts at Cirque Royal in Brussels and Stadsschouwburg in Antwerp.
Now, Agnes Obel is ready to unveil a new body of work. The Meaning of Flowers, her first album in six years, will be released on September 18, 2026. Inspired by reflections on the emotional impact of motherhood and dedicated to her daughter, the album draws from a remarkably diverse range of influences. These include the poetry of Enheduanna, widely regarded as the earliest known female author in history, the writings of philosophers such as Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia, and Danish pop music from the 1980s and 1990s.
Both intimate and ambitious, The Meaning of Flowers promises to open an exciting new chapter in Agnes Obel’s career. In the autumn of 2027, Belgian audiences will have the chance to experience these new songs live when she returns to Brussels for a special evening at Bozar.
