"Trumpeter Amir ElSaffar is after a trance-like state of ecstasy with his chamber orchestra group Rivers of Sound, which boasts some of contemporary jazz’s most powerful soloists" Pitchfork.

Born in Chicago to an American mother and an Iraqi father, Amir ElSaffar is the epitome of the globalisation of jazz in recent decades. His multifaceted identity is also apparent in his amazing compositions for the Rivers of Sound Ensemble. The discovery of the year!

Amir El Saffar embodies the globalisation of jazz in the past few decades. Born in Chicago to an American mother and an Iraqi father, the trumpeter interrupted a promising career in 2002 to focus on studying traditional Iraqi maqâm music. His music is permeated by two sonic worlds, as you can hear in his compositions for the Rivers of Sound orchestra.
