‘Antigone’

de Roovers & theatercollectief Herman

De Roovers give their take on Sophocles’ Antigone, a tragedy that has already been (re)interpreted by many writers. This classic play narrates the mythical story of King Creon who condemns his niece Antigone to death for burying her brother with funeral rites against his wishes.

The play tackles themes such as opposition to the established order, the complexity of power, a young generation who refuse to be dictated to. De Roovers has also chosen to perform this play with a new generation of young actors from the Herman theatre collective who graduated from the Antwerp Conservatory in 2019. An uncompromising performance about generations, life and resistance.
