For some time now, the Greek conductor, George Petrou’s interpretations of Handel’s operas have been highly regarded, right up there with Minkowski, Jacobs and Fasolis. His conducting style is always a perfect mixture of creativity and tenderness, but where theatricality never descends into brutality. Let him take the reins of the ensemble and rule his soloists with a rod of iron, and discover this great work which was composed by Handel in 1725 for a group of singers - Faustina Bordoni, Senesino and Francesca Cuzzoni - who were extremely popular at the time.
