‘Bach: Matthäus-Passion - Collegium Vocale Gent’

Betrayal, condemnation and death, but above all love and hope. Although most of the text of the St Matthew Passion is almost 2,000 years old, its message is still highly topical. Philippe Herreweghe made two recordings of Bach's St Matthew Passion and has since been rooting through this impressive score about The Passion of Christ for more than 40 years. Every year, he seems to uncover even more musical layers, literally extracting every word. Herreweghe appears to be asking us if we understand the story. With Julien Prégardien as the Evangelist and Florian Boesch as Christ, Herreweghe has already found his master storytellers.
