The continent of Africa has always been a place that evokes a deep sense of wonder and fantasy. As the home of ancient civilisations, it is considered to be the ‘cradle of humanity’. But might it also be the birthplace of style? Bangaologia aims to explore the raison d'être behind the recent growth of the African aesthetic worldwide from the most unexpected places. The documentary takes us on a journey from Angola to the USA and Europe to discover why this mysterious African ‘it factor’ has inspired so many, both in Africa itself and beyond. Forbes describes director Coréon Dú as one of the fifteen most influential young creatives in Africa, and he has also been dubbed ‘Africa’s best-kept secret’.

The documentary is followed by a discussion on the theme of the African aesthetic. What is its influence on the international fashion world? And where does that influence end and cultural appropriation begin?
