Formed in 2002, BAO is a group made up of seven artists from different disciplines and horizons coming together, united by their love of Afro-Cuban culture. This inspired their repertoire, which is a mix of song, dance and music. They seek to express themselves artistically in a way that is both modern and personal. BAO were a special guest of Cuba's National Folk Ensemble and were also invited to Camaguey (Cuba's third city) for a week of musical training with the city's Folk Ballet. They then performed at the "Olorun" festival of Afro-Cuban music. Since then, the group has been exploring the island's musical diversity (e.g. Arrara, Congo, Palo, Gaga and Abakua cultures) and is including more and more of these influences in their set.
