Filmmaker Marie Losier attempts the impossible: a portrait of the masked group, The Residents.

She immerses us in the enigmatic, genre-defying world of The Residents, legendary figures of the American musical avant-garde for over half a century. Masked, elusive, and fiercely independent, these pioneers of sonic experimentation have pushed the boundaries of underground music and visual art. With playful energy, Losier celebrates the radical freedom of a collective that has always rejected convention to invent its own rules.

The film will be preceded by the short film Viandes et Poissons, a wildly inventive animation about the Belgian group Choolers Division.

Viandes et Poissons follows Choolers Division, an experimental hip-hop group of Belgian artists with disabilities, in residence at the outsider art center “La S”. Their quirky humor, unbridled energy, and creativity joyfully challenge artistic and social norms. Directed by Monsieur Pimpant, the film uses an animation technique as singular as the group itself. The result is a hybrid sensory world, propelled by sound and contagious freedom.
